Outside - in / In - side Out

Public installation commissioned by the City of Ottawa’s Microcosm Project - an initiative to bring art responding to the social climate of the pandemic into public spaces

Outside-in/In-side Out combines a video loop of my daily pandemic walk around my centertown neighbourhood with kinetic mirror sculptures and organic materials. The repetitive rotation of the sculpture and its cast reflections speaks to the mundane patterns of lockdown and attempts to expand beyond one’s confines to connect to the external world. Despite the appearance of change and transformation, the limitations of the sculpture’s rotation and the loop of the video create a micro-environment where the pattern endlessly repeats.
